The key skills for anyone wishing to join our Parts Departments are:
Strong communication skills
A positive ‘can-do’ attitude
Good attention-to-detail
Computer literate
A good team player
A desire to deliver a great customer experience
This role requires an understanding of the parts and systems used in vehicles, and the ability to communicate effectively with Vehicle Technicians, Service Advisors, and customers, to ensure timely and accurate parts fulfilment.
There is a clear career pathway in Parts which starts as a Trainee Parts Advisor, then progresses to a Parts Advisor when you have mastered the skills it takes to work unaccompanied. We also have Parts Supervisor and Parts Managers who have developed even further in their careers with Dick Lovett.
We are committed to future-proofing our team, so we offer Apprenticeships in the Parts Department. The Parts team work with Technicians, Service Advisors and directly with customers, so joining as an Apprentice is a brilliant way to develop your knowledge and communication skills.
In this role, you will learn how to deliver excellent service not only to ‘front-of-house’ retail customers, but also to our Trade customers and Workshop Technicians. This is a fantastic opportunity to build on your organisational skills, develop an understanding of the automotive industry, and grow with us.
Parts Advisor Apprenticeships last for 2 years and you will finish with an NVQ Level 3 Qualification. During the Apprenticeship, you will work on-site at one of our dealerships and attend block training at college.
If you already have customer service skills and some experience of working in a fast-paced environment, then joining our Parts Departments as a Trainee is a fantastic way to start your automotive career and gain an understanding of how the Aftersales department runs.
If you have a technical mind and are interested in how different parts of a car fit together, you might enjoy a career in Parts. This role combines technical knowledge of the cars with customer service, so you get the best of both worlds!
As a Trainee, you will work with your team to learn how to become an independent Parts Advisor.
As a Parts Advisor, you will be responsible for supplying parts to customers and the workshop. We look for people who are diligent, organised, and can work well in a team for this role. Great communication is key, whether you are speaking to a customer or a colleague, we want to ensure we have great people in our Parts teams.
You will organise exciting parts displays for the showroom to promote sales of lifestyle accessories, carry out stock checks, and also interact with trade customers. You will work independently to manage your workload and work with the team to arrange deliveries and speak to trade customers.
When you have progressed to the role of Parts Supervisor, or Senior Parts Advisor, you will be taking more of an active role in coordinating the daily activities of the team.
The Parts Teams take responsibility for maintaining our showroom product displays, ensuring that the latest lifestyle and accessories products are priced correctly and clearly visible. As a Supervisor, you would check the information is up-to-date, relevant and topical.
You might also handle any customer issues as the Parts Supervisor, to support the team and provide extra advice to the customer.
The Parts Manager oversees the Parts team to ensure they are operating efficiently and working well with the rest of the departments to deliver results. For our Managerial roles, we need strong leadership and strategic skills to bring the best out in the team you are managing. You will have an active role in recruitment and staff reviews to ensure the team are performing to the best of their ability and advertise for new staff to join the team.
Maintaining regular contact with the Manufacturers is also a key part of this role. Our Parts Teams must remain up-to-date with any changes in parts availability that could affect the service that we provide to our customers, enabling us to keep our customers up-to-date with their vehicle service, repair or Trade parts order.
